Item of the Week: Knick Knacks!

6 Sep

Everyone knows that Belmont Army is the place for sneaker freaks and mountain men, for nuthugger jeans and skateboard decks, but did you know about our quality collection of bric-a-brac, tchotchkies, and knick knacks?

Our vintage buyers are always on the lookout for interesting debris from the past. This includes vintage luggage, ashtrays, candles, coffee mugs, beer steins, figurines and more! Our vintage collection includes retro items from1950s thru the 1980s, that range from kitschy to classy and all things in between. Here’s just a few pieces from our ever-growing collection.

Look at me! Im a cute little whale, swimming thru the bright blue ocean with my daughter. How about filling my head with beer and taking a chug?

My scientific name is Procyon Lotor, but you probably know me as a North American Raccoon. Im a little bandit scamp (check out the bandana) that can open garbage cans, jars and latches with my tiny little hands. Imagine how cute Ill be when you set my head on fire and I light up like the 4th of July

You probably remember us from the original Star Wars trilogy and ET: the Extraterrestrial. Weve come all the way from deep space (and the early 80s) for your convenience. Feel free to use our skulls to hold loose change or keys, your morning coffee, or to extinguish your cigarette butts. We dont mind, because were awesome.

Im the big boy from Big Boy. I love the hell out of burgers. Im a lasting symbol of bott the innocence of post-war 1950s Americana and the consumerist excesses that resulted from it. You can stick coins into the back of my head to save up for your next delicious cheeseburger, or possibly gastric bypass surgery. Enjoy!

Bicentennial Disco Skates

It’s mid-August, Summer festival season pretty much just wrapped up with Lollapalooza last week, and the weather’s gonna get ugly sooner than you’re ready for. All this begs the question: have you a rocked a pair of skates at the roller disco/roller derby this summer?

If you haven’t yet, you might want to take a trip down to Belmont Army Vintage and pick up a pair of skates. We tracked down a bunch early in the season and we’ve still got a few left, including the sweet Bicentennial Disco Skates shown above.

Upcoming roller skating events:

  • August 14, the Chicago Outfit Derby Girls hold a Michael Jackson tribute party at Horseshoe with Neverland, a live MJ-tribute band. (more info at www.chicagooutfitrollerderby.com)
  • August 29, the Windy City Rollers All-Stars take on Baltimore’s Charm City Rollers at the UIC Pavillion (more info at www.windycityrollers.com)
  • Every Wednesday and Saturday, our friend the Southside Scrabblor spins classic hip hop, funk and juke at the MLK Ent Skating Rink at 1219 W 76th Street ($2 skate includes rentals, call 312-747-2602‎ for details)

Here’s a first look at the brand new Vintage Processing Center at Belmont Army.

Just in time for back to school shopping, our buyers just got back from a trip down South with a shit ton of new vintage clothing! Over the next week, we’ll be unrolling motorcycle jackets, westerns, cowboy boots, dresses, jewelry, a couple crates of Pendleton jackets, jeans by Levis, Lee, and Wrangler, and a bunch of awesome band shirts (check out the 1978 Ramones shirt and the Memory Lapse tour shirt from Pink Floyd in the picture above with Whitesnake and Deep Purple).
